Michael A. Raab, 78, a retired supervisor at Alcas Cutlery in Olean, died Wednesday (Sept. 1, 1999) in Bertrand Chaffee Hospital, Springville, after a short illness.
Born in Pottstown, Pa., he served in the Army Air Forces during World War II. He received a medal for valor for rescuing several soldiers following a plane crash.
Active in SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, he received the Lay Award of St. Joseph the Worker. He was a lay minister and assisted in the religious education program. He was a fourth degree member of Council 5716, Knights of Columbus, in Yorkshire. He also was a member of the Arcade Senior Citizens.
He and the former Mary Darcy were married in 1945.
In addition to his wife, survivors include six sons, Michael and Tim, both of Machias, Pat and Tom, both of Ellicottville, Dan of Delevan and Kelly of Hammondsport; five daughters, Mary Henzi of Goldens Bridge, Eileen of Lancaster, Ann Goodhand of Franklinville, Kathy Schuster of Machias and Bonnie of Arcade; and 14 grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Saturday in SS. Peter & Paul Church, 417 W. Main St. Burial will be in SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery.
