GROUNDED TEEN, BOYFRIEND CHARGED IN STABBING DEATHS

A 14-year-old girl and her 16-year-old boyfriend were in police custody Tuesday on charges of fatally stabbing two members of the girl's family after she was grounded for staying out all night.

Jefferson County Sheriff's Capt. Carl Johnson said Ashley Jones, 14, and Germaine Hart, 16, were charged with two counts of murder and two of attempted murder.

Johnson said police first learned of the attack, which occurred late Sunday or early Monday, when Ms. Jones's sister, 10-year-old Mary Elizabeth Jones, showed up at a neighbor's home with stab wounds.

When police arrived at the home, they discovered Ms. Jones' grandfather, Delroy Nalls, 78, dead in the living room and her aunt, Millie Nalls, 30, slain in her bed.

The girl's grandmother, Elizabeth Nalls, 73, had collapsed from wounds but survived by pretending to be dead, Johnson said.

Friends of the victims told police Ms. Jones had lived with her grandparents in Birmingham since 1998 after she stabbed her parents. They survived.
