A four-year labor contract, ratified last week by members of the Professional Firefighters Association Local 1796, is being sent to the Olean Common Council for approval.
The contract provides a $1,800 wage adjustment for the 1999-2000 fiscal year retroactive to June 1 and a 4 percent pay increase for the next three years. The union has approximately 57 members.
Mayor James P. Griffin, who announced the settlement, said the city's labor counsel was not called in to negotiate with union officials in a cost-saving measure. Instead, Griffin, City Attorney Jennifer Smith Haner and City Auditor Gregg Prockton attended the sessions.
