Rochester school officials are investigating the coaching practices of a high school football coach following the death of one of his players Saturday.
Ben Nix was suspended from his position at Franklin High School while investigators probe what caused 17-year-old Torrance Wright Jr. to collapse and die on the field.
Wright's death has highlighted criticism of Nix's coaching style and formal complaints filed three months ago by the Urban League of Rochester on behalf of parents.
The school system is investigating whether Wright asked to be taken out of the game before he collapsed because he had trouble breathing. Officials are also looking into allegations that Nix verbally abused players, including making belittling remarks and swearing at them.
