First Carolina Investors Inc., a closed end investment fund run by Buffalo investor Brent D. Baird, has increased its stake in Acme Electric Corp. to 19.75 percent, further solidifying its position as the biggest shareholder in the East Aurora electronics company.
First Carolina, which started buying Acme stock last September and has steadily added to its stake since then, spent $262,500 to buy 54,500 more shares at an average price of $4.82 per share, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
First Carolina now owns 1 million shares of Acme stock.
Russians here to learn business skills
A group of Russian entrepreneurs will be spending the next month in Western New York for a business and skills training program.
Throughout their stay, participants will be placed with local businesses and reside in the homes of local families. The delegation includes eight entrepreneurs and one Russian labor official. Their visits are being hosted by the Buffalo-Niagara Region Council for International Visitors and the U.S. Department of State.
The initiative is part of the Community Connections program which was launched at the Clinton-Yeltsin Summit in 1993.
