Backward passes will be treated like fumbles during the next college football season, the NCAA said.

In its annual meeting in Kansas City last week, the NCAA football rules committee said backward passes can be recovered and advanced by the defense, the same as fumbles.

The change was made in response to the large majority of coaches who wanted to see the rules governing backward passes and fumbles be made more consistent.
