MARIE GANEY, TEACHER, BUSINESSWOMAN, VOLUNTEER

A memorial Mass for Marie Ganey, a retired teacher and businesswoman who was an active church and community volunteer, will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 1029 Delaware Ave.

Mrs. Ganey, 93, died Oct. 2, 1997, in St. Luke's Presbyterian Nursing Center, 1175 Delaware Ave. She was a native of Buffalo and lived on Crosby Avenue in Kenmore for 60 years.

The former Marie Rick was a 1921 graduate of Nardin Academy. She attended State Normal School, the predecessor of Buffalo State College, then taught for more than 30 years in Buffalo schools.

She also ran M.R. Ganey Insurance Service on Church Street.

Mrs. Ganey was a longtime volunteer at Nardin and a volunteer at the American Red Cross, Goodwill Industries and Blessed Sacrament Church, where she was a member of the Holy Name Society and the Altar and Rosary Society.

Her husband, George T., died in 1977.

Survivors include six sons, John of Marston Mills, Mass., Thomas of Springfield, Va., Joe of Herndon, Va., Charles of Vernon, Conn., Mike of Spokane, Wash., and George T. Jr.; four daughters, Joan Klawitterof Aurora, Ohio, Phyllis Jamieson of Amherst, Susan Miller of Reading, Maine, and Judith Charters of Spokane; a sister, Agnes Sippel of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; 46 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
