New trees, lighting and landscaping will be installed in the Hertel Avenue business district using a total of $48,000 in city grants, officials said Thursday.
Mayor Masiello's Neighborhood Matching Fund awarded four grants totaling $8,500 to the Hertel-North Buffalo Business Association to be used for decorative lighting, new banners and the planting of 150 trees along the avenue.
The business group also received a $40,000 grant from the city's Urban Renewal Agency to beautify the avenue between Delaware Avenue and Main Street.
The money, from the city's community development block grants, will be used to purchase "spin bin" trash receptacles to replace the existing 55 gallon drums.
Allentown Industries will be hired to empty the bins and clean and shovel sidewalks, officials said.
