Willard L. "Bill" Wilbur, the former owner and operator of Wilbur Roofing, died Wednesday (Oct. 15, 1997) in his East Center Street home after a lengthy illness. He was 70.
Wilbur was born and grew up in the Norwich area.
He served in the U.S. Navy as a fire control officer during World War II.
Wilbur married in Cleveland in 1970, and the family moved to the Medina area in 1978.
He owned and operated his roofing business for many years until ill health forced him to stop working.
Wilbur enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping and also enjoyed flower gardening. He was an avid woodworker who made many creative gifts for his family.
He is survived by his wife, the former Audrey Ashton; two sons, Wayne D. "Tony" of Barker and Willard L. Jr.; a sister, Molly Button of Norwich; a half-sister, Wilhelmina of Norwich; and two granddaughters.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Barnes & Tuttle Funeral Home, 226 Pearl St. Burial will be in Hartland Central Cemetery, Gasport.
