The Bon-Ton Stores Inc.
The department store chain, which has nine stores in Western New York, said sales for the five weeks ended Oct. 4 totaled $61.6 million, 8 percent ahead of a year ago. Comparable store sales were up 10.2 percent. Most of the nation's other department store chains had lackuster sales for the period. Bon-Ton's stock jumped on the news.
