Haleem J. Sarkees, a Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. retiree and an avid golfer, died Sunday (Oct. 5, 1997) in his Fairway Drive home. He was 76.
Sarkees was born in Niagara Falls and graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1939. During World War II, he served in the Army Air Forces for four years as a sheet-metal specialist with the 865th Air Engineering Squadron in England and Germany.
For many years, he was instrumental in operating the family business, the former Sarkees Confectionary, which was on Niagara Street in Niagara Falls until 1972. From 1951 to 1985, he was employed at Goodyear as a supervisor and foreman in vinyl production.
He enjoyed golf and bowling and participated in numerous industrial leagues.
Sarkees was a member of Our Lady of Lebanon Catholic Church and the Industrial Management Club.
Survivors include his wife, the former Jean M. Amey; two sons, James H. of Grand Island and John R.; and three grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in Our Lady of Lebanon Church, 1120 Niagara St., after prayers at 9 in M.J. Colucci & Son Funeral Chapel, 468 19th St. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
