Earl P. Fowlston Jr., 63, a banker and insurance agency executive, died Tuesday (Sept. 30, 1997) in Millard Fillmore Hospital after a brief illness.
Born in McKeesport, Pa., he moved to the Buffalo area with his family in 1946 and was a graduate of Amherst High School. He attended St. Lawrence University and the University of Buffalo and served in the Army during the Korean War.
He was a manager for Household Finance Corp. in Buffalo before joining Marine Midland Bank in the consumer loan department. He was with the Bank of New York as a vice president from 1963 to 1969, then joined Erie County Savings Bank as a specialist in consumer and student loans.
In 1977, he left banking and began a career in insurance, representing Equitable Life and Guardian Insurance. He started his own agency, Fowlston Associates, in Orchard Park.
He was a past president of Buffalo Rotary Club, a member of the board of directors of Cradle Beach Camp, a past president and treasurer of the Consumer Counseling Service of Western New York and a former member of the Jaycees.
He was active in Amherst Community Church and served as church treasurer. He was a member of Phi Psi Fraternity and a past president of the Wisemen of Amherst High School.
A boating enthusiast, he was active in Silver Lake Yacht Club and a member of the Race Committee of the Yacht Club of Wyoming County.
Surviving are his wife of 37 years, the former Janet Ruth Seville; two daughters, Tamara and Rebecca; and his mother, Irene.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Amherst Community Church, 77 Washington Highway, Snyder.[dndrsn]
