GORDON, SABATES FINALLY END NASCAR PARTNERSHIP

Robby Gordon and Felix Sabates pulled the plug on their tumultuous relationship Tuesday.

Team SABCO released a statement saying Gordon, driver of the No. 40 Chevrolet, and Sabates, the car owner, agreed to part ways so each could concentrate on preparing for 1998.

Gordon, 28, started 20 races for Sabates' team, with a best finish of fourth in the Bud at the Glen on Aug. 10 at Watkins Glen. He also won the pole for the March 9 Primestar 500 at Atlanta.

Grand National regular Elliott Sadler will drive the car in Sunday's UAW-GM 500 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The team will decide later on a driver for this season's remaining races.

Sabates has a news conference scheduled for Saturday morning at the speedway to announce Sterling Marlin as the driver for the car in 1998.
