Matthew Laughlin, who has been a State Senate aide in the 61st District for more than 20 years, will be honored at a retirement party Monday in John's Flaming Hearth restaurant, 1965 Military Road, Town of Niagara.

Laughlin's principal role has been to help constituents to solve problems involving workers' compensation, disability and retirement payments, and to be a liaison with labor unions. He also helped residents of the former Love Canal neighborhood to cope with the environmental disaster there.

Laughlin helped to create a golf tournament to help mentally and physically disabled children. The tournament now is known as the Senator's Open.

The 61st District, now represented by Sen. George D. Maziarz, R-North Tonawanda, covers most of Niagara County, all of Orleans County and seven towns in Monroe County. Tickets for Monday's party will be available at the door.
