John Denver took the witness stand at his drunken-driving trial and testified he wasn't on a Rocky Mountain high when he smashed his vintage sports car into a tree.
The trial ended Saturday with a hung jury.
A test indicated his blood alcohol level was .128 at the time, above the state's legal definition of being under the influence.
Denver's lawyer said he suffers from a thyroid condition that makes metabolizing alcohol more difficult, thereby making the blood-alcohol test unreliable.
A hearing was scheduled Aug. 19 to decide whether to schedule a new trial.
