"SHINE": In a new independent film Geoffrey Rush, the Australian actor above, plays the mentally troubled classical pianist David Helfgott as a grown man. Helfgott and his story are real. He was a child prodigy at the piano, the son of a Holocaust survivor driven to excel. As a young man he suffered a terrible breakdown after performing Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 3. Years passed before he was able to play again. He still suffers the effects of the mental collapse. The acclaimed movie opens today in the Amherst Theater.
