OUTBREAK OF MALARIA FATAL TO AT LEAST 800 IN INDIA

Malarial mosquitoes breeding in huge swamps created by heavy monsoon rains in India have caused a malaria outbreak that has killed at least 800 people.

Officials say hundreds of others might have died, and some doctors said the government was concealing fatalities.

Newspapers estimated the death toll as high as 2,300, but state health officials said the figure was exaggerated.
