Margaret "Peg" Halstead, 83, a retired insurance company employee who was active in the library and local civic affairs, died Wednesday (Oct. 30, 1996) in Orchard Manor, a Medina nursing home.
A native of Detroit, the former Margaret Tower had worked for 19 years at Jackling & Shaw Co. in Middleport.
She served on the board of directors of the Middleport Free Library for 15 years and was president from 1986 to 1992. She also was a member and a past president of the Middleport, Medina and Lyndonville American Association of University Women (AAUW).
A member of First Universalist Church in Middleport, she was active with the Willow Twig of Medina Memorial Hospital and the Barge Canal Art Center.
Her husband, Herbert, died in 1955.
Surviving are three sons, Kenneth of Milton, Thomas of Saratoga Springs and Robert of Detroit; a brother, Leonard Tower of Ohio; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in First Universalist Church, 46 Main St. Burial will be in Cold Spring Cemetery, Lockport.
