Jerald S. Boyce, a former chef, food and beverage director, real estate agent and hotel dining manager, died Oct. 23, 1996, in his Hamburg home after suffering briefly from a rare liver illness.

Boyce, 56, was currently employed as safety operations director for the Hamburg School Car Service. The service transports special- education students for the school district. He had previously worked in the school district as a bus driver and served as director of the service since 1993. He was also a sales agent for Hunt Real Estate Corp. in Hamburg.

From 1973 to 1987, Boyce educated future chefs and food service workers as an instructor for Chautauqua County Board of Cooperative Educational Services. From 1987 to 1992, he was coordinator-dean at the Southwest Institute of Culinary Arts in St. Augustine, Fla. In 1992, he worked at Brierwood Country Club as food and beverage director.

Boyce first studied culinary arts and food service management at Erie Community College. He earned a bachelor's degree in vocational education at Buffalo State College.

He was an active member of St. James United Church of Christ in Hamburg.

Surviving are are a son, Brian S.; a dear friend, Claudia J. Fuller of Ellicottville; and a brother, Robert L. of Le Roy.

A memorial service will be held at 4:34 p.m. Friday in St. James United Church of Christ, 76 Main St., Hamburg. Burial will be scheduled in Prospect Lawn Cemetery, Hamburg.
