THIEVES HIDE IN NIGHTCLUB, TAKE ITEMS WORTH $1,800

Persons who overstayed their welcome at a new downtown restaurant and club made off with an estimated $1,800 worth of property, Downtown District officers said Tuesday.

An official for Banana Joe's on Main Street, which occupies the former space of Jim Kelly's grill and nightclub, told police thieves hid out in the business after it was locked up for the night. Then they helped themselves to a couple of color television sets, videocassette recorder, two cases of liquor, four bottles of wine, three bundles of cigars and a carton of frozen poultry.
