Bishop Alojzy Orszulik, bishop of Lowicz, Poland, Sister City of Cheektowaga, visited the office of a Cheektowaga eye surgeon Tuesday and thanked him for helping deliver more than $100,000 in eye surgery equipment to Lowicz.
Dr. Amar Atwal, based at the Vision Correction Center of Buffalo, 3095 Harlem Road, used the occasion of the bishop's visit to unveil a half-million-dollar Excimer Laser for the treatment of myopia. It is one of only two in the Buffalo area.
The bishop was greeted by Bishop Henry J. Mansell, Rep. Jack Quinn, State Sen. Dale Volker, Assemblyman Paul Tokacz and County Executive Gorski.
Bishop Orszulik was secretary of the Catholic Conference of Bishops, working closely with Pope John Paul II when he was a cardinal in Cracow.
