Volunteers are needed to pick up perishable food for the Food Shuttle of Western New York and take it to the poor and homeless.
The shuttle, based at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Amherst, is operated by volunteers who pick up food in their own cars from supermarkets and other merchants and deliver it to food pantries and soup kitchens throughout the area.
Volunteers work as drivers or dispatchers and meet once a month to discuss problems. The work requires lifting and carrying large bags of food. Prospective volunteers can get more information by calling the Food Shuttle hot line at 688-2527.
