The Orleans-Niagara Board of Cooperative Educational Services and the state Health Department are sponsoring a free "winter workout campaign" in which participants will be able to work out at their own pace and on their own time in an effort to prevent the weight gain that often occurs during the winter holidays.

Sponsors of the program said the average American gains seven pounds during the holidays.

Participants will keep track of their own physical activity on forms that will be provided. The program will run from Nov. 3 through Feb. 14. Everyone who turns in a form with at least 13 of the 15 weeks filled in will be eligible for prizes. Forms may be obtained at the Orleans Niagara BOCES Kenan Site, 195 Beattie Ave., Lockport.
