Available for adoption Monday at the South Towns shelter of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is this "very quiet and friendly" female cat named Precious.

The 1 1/2 -year-old likes to be held and brushed. She was brought to the shelter because her owners had too many cats. Precious can be adopted for $40, which includes a rabies shot, spaying and a free visit to a veterinarian of choice.
