Mud and a cornstalk clinging to a car led to the arrest of its driver early Saturday on four charges.
Lyle W. Ellsworth, 20, of 27 Main St. was arrested at 3:45 a.m. outside a Main Street business by Officer Frank Previte.
Previte said he was looking for a vehicle that went off the pavement at Church and Kelly streets, flattened a village traffic sign and drove away.
After finding a Camaro decal at the accident scene, he said he saw Ellsworth driving a Camaro that was caked with mud and had a cornstalk stuck to the front end.
Ellsworth was charged with leaving the scene of an accident, violating the village's open container law, underage possession of alcohol for drinking a beer next to the car and marijuana possession after Previte found a pipe containing the drug in his possession.
