Madeline A. Gioannini, 79, formerly of Pierce Avenue, a retired head cook and cafeteria manager in local schools, died Saturday (Oct. 26, 1996) in St. Mary's Manor Nursing Home.
A native of Hornell, the former Madeline A. Testani moved to Niagara Falls in 1940.
Mrs. Gioannini served as head cook at the former North and South Junior High schools and at Harry F. Abate Elementary School until she retired in 1976.
The late Michael C. O'Laughlin, former mayor of Niagara Falls, gave her a key to the city at her retirement party.
She was known for making sure that every child in her school was able to have a lunch, even if they could not afford it. She was considered an excellent cook and baker.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Her husband, Carl D., died in 1957.
Survivors include three sons, Anthony of Las Vegas, Stephen and Carl C.; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in Sacred Heart Church, 1100 South Ave., after prayers at 9 in M.J. Colucci & Son Funeral Chapel, 468 19th St. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston.[bldwn]
