Cornell Cooperative Extension in Chautauqua County will have a new grape specialist on board by Christmas.

Phillip Throop, a ground-water technician with the U.S. Agriculture Department AmeriCorps in Sparta, Mich., will replace James Kamas, who resigned this year to take a job in Texas, his home state.

Throop has a background in horticulture and agriculture, according to Wayne Grossman, extension coordinator. He will be based at the Fredonia grape research station and will work with grape growers in Western New York and northwestern Pennsylvania.
