It's so early in the season, Kristi Yamaguchi didn't expect perfection. She got it anyway at the U.S. Professional Figure Skating Championships. Yamaguchi, the 1992 Olympic champion, received four 10s for her free skate, to "Trouble" from "Smokey Joe's Cafe." She scored 197.5 points overall, barely ahead of Ekaterina Gordeeva (197.0).
Kurt Browning, a four-time world champion, took the technical program," getting two perfect 10.0s. Then the Canadian star added six more 10s in the free skate. Rudy Galindo, the defending U.S. champion making his pro debut, struggled with his jumps and was fourth.
