Robin Broda, a former drywall installer from Eden, has accepted a nearly $376,000 insurance settlement from the Wegmans supermarket chain and a Rochester construction firm for the knee injury he suffered while helping to build the Wegmans on Walden Avenue in Cheektowaga, his attorneys said Thursday.
Attorneys Philip Celniker and Michael R. Drumm said Broda was on stilts working on walls in the pharmacy area of the store when debris on the floor caused him to lose his balance and fall, tearing
ligaments in his right knee.
The settlement by insurance carriers for Wegmans Food Markets Inc. and Raymond LeChase Inc., the Rochester-based general contractor on the construction job, came as jury selection was about to begin before State Supreme Court Justice Thomas P. Flaherty.
Celniker said Broda's knee injury forced him to quit construction work and he now has an office job with an Amherst company.
