INNOCENT PLEA ENTERED IN CROWBAR ATTACK CASE

A man accused of hitting a neighbor in the head with a crowbar 16 times pleaded not guilty to attempted second-degree murder Thursday before Niagara
County Judge Amy J. Fricano.

Michael P. Novak, 37, of 370 Witmer Road, North Tonawanda, also pleaded not guilty to two counts each of first-degree assault and first-degree burglary. He was arrested Aug. 30 after the attack on Alan Forrester of 365 Witmer Road in the victim's home.

Assistant District Attorney Donald J. Tucker said Forrester needed a total of 78 staples to close 16 lacerations in his head. Novak is in the Niagara County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.
