A fight on West Fourth Street caused an auto accident Wednesday night.

Jamestown Police were called to what bystanders first reported as a stabbing just before 10:30 p.m. But the victim, Scott Eddy, 22, of Randolph, had actually been hit with a large stick during a fight and then pushed in front of an oncoming car. Eddy was held overnight at WCA Hospital for observation.

The driver, Jeffrey Griffen, 20, of Celoron, told police he swerved to try to miss Eddy, but could not avoid him. Griffin was not charged. The investigation is continuing.
