Griffin Automation Inc. of West Seneca, a designer and manufacturer of specialized automation machinery and equipment, has elected Todd A. Hintz vice president. With the firm for eight years, he will continue as manager of the systems engineering department. Hintz holds an associate's degree in electrical technology from Alfred State College.

Westwood-Squibb Pharmaceuticals, a Buffalo-based research dermatological company, has appointed Samuel S. Duncan vice president of sales. He formerly was regional marketing director with Mead Johnson in Evansville, Ind. Duncan holds a bachelor's degree in social studies from Northeast Missouri State University and a master's degree in education from the University of Missouri at Kansas City.

ATTO Technology Inc., an Amherst computer hardware and software developer, has named Timothy Boser vice president of operations. Formerly with Amherst Systems, he holds a bachelor's degree from Rochester Institute of Technology and a master's in business administration from the University at Buffalo.

National Fuel Gas Co. has named George L. Mazanec, vice chairman of PanEnergy Corp., to the board of directors. Mazanec replaces David N. Campbell, the former Computer Task Group Inc. chief executive who resigned from the National Fuel board in August. Mazanec will serve out the remaining five months on Campbell's term and then seek re-election to a full term in February. PanEnergy is a Houston-based natural gas transmission and marketing firm.

Marketing/public relations firm Wolf Group Direct has promoted Dawn Schoenl to assistant account executive and Denise Mortellaro to production manager. Ms. Schoenl is responsible for client relations and day-to-day management of various direct mail campaigns for clients in the financial and health care industries. A graduate of the University at Buffalo, she joined Wolf Group Direct in 1995 as an account coordinator. Ms. Mortellaro is responsible for production supervision for all direct-mail packages. She joined the firm in February as an assistant account executive following a stint as client services director for Buffalo's Integrated Marketing Solutions.

Tony C. Zapia has been appointed director, marketing/communications for camouflage designer Skyline Camouflage Inc. in West Falls.

Real estate and mortgage broker John Khoukaz Co. has appointed Lou Ann Burgio mortgage department manager and Sharon Wasner assistant manager.

Four staff members of certified public accounting firm James Amato & Co., PC of Tonawanda have passed the Uniform Certified Public Accountants examination, including Carmela M. Kieffer, William J. Elflein, Dennis M. Maher and Edward K. Dickey.

Native Buffalonian Joe Garvey recently was honored as "Market Manager of the Year" by drugstore chain Rite Aid Corp. Garvey was recognized for best overall performance in the sales, shrinkage and leadership for profitability categories for his territory, which includes 140 stores in the states of Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont.
