FALLS RESIDENT SENTENCED IN FOOD STAMP CASE

Niagara County Judge Amy J. Fricano sentenced a Niagara Falls resident in a welfare fraud case Wednesday.

Abdo A. Saleh, 30, of 1563 Pierce Ave. was sentenced to 10 weekends in the county work program and repayment of $1,385 for a guilty plea to misuse of food stamps. Saleh was arrested Jan. 31.

In another case, Judge Fricano set sentencing Dec. 5 for Shawn M. Grosskopf, 32, of 61 Sixth Ave., North Tonawanda. She pleaded guilty to misdemeanor driving while intoxicated and second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation. She was arrested Aug. 28 in North Tonawanda.

Another drunk driving defendant was arraigned Wednesday before Judge Charles J. Hannigan. Joel M. Hurtgam, 38, of 2449 Niagara Ave., Niagara Falls, pleaded not guilty to felony DWI, first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, passing a stop sign, and failure to keep right. Hurtgam was arrested Aug. 10 in Porter.
