The Village Board voted 4-1 Monday to allow Alphonso I. DiMino to extend a contract for reconstruction and expansion of the Tops market on Center Street. The contract had expired in July, and only Trustee Kenneth J. Kenney voted against giving DiMino the extra time.
"This gives it some hope," said Mayor Richard F. Soluri.
In another matter, trustees voted 5-0 to execute a contract between the village and Lewiston Fire Company 1 to provide fire services for the fiscal year 1996-97. The company will be paid $58,000, an increase of $2,000 from 1995-96.
The members discussed but made no decision on whether the village should provide two ice skating rinks in 1997 in Academy Park. Recreation Director Marianne L. Gittermann said she would like one larger rink for family skating, and one smaller rink for hockey.
Trustees questioned her on who would pay for electricity.
Mrs. Gittermann and Ernest Murdoch, superintendent of public works, will have to figure out how rinks would be cleared of snow and who would clean them. The members voted 5-0 to table the matter until their questions are answered.
