The City Council Monday withheld its support for a Council member's resolution endorsing a proposed tightrope walk across the American Falls after some members said they want to hear from the mayor.
Councilman Guy T. Sottile withdrew a resolution asking that the Council support in principle a 3,500-foot walk next September by aerialist Jay M. Cochrane across the falls and Niagara River gorge.
Councilman Vincent R. Morello said he has a number of questions about the proposal and asked if Mayor James C. Galie would be coming in to make a presentation to the Council as Galie promised two weeks ago. However, Galie was vacationing in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Galie and Mayor Wayne Thomson of Niagara Falls, Ont., have given their support to Cochrane's plan.
The parks commissions on both sides of the river have said they are unlikely to give permission for a skywalk, so Cochrane is trying to arrange a walk that will not require him to set foot on park property.
