Vickie Mayfield was presented a trip for two to Germany in a brief ceremony Friday at the Tops Market at Bailey Avenue and Broadway by Frey's, one of the most-respected sausage manufacturing facilities in Western New York.
Brian Frey, a third-generation member of a family that came to Buffalo from Germany more than a century ago, was on hand to make the presentation, which included round-trip fares for two, hotel accommodations, meals, sightseeing tours and even spending money. He explained that the company, affiliated with Russer Foods, sponsored the contest in celebration of its 100th anniversary. The facility has remained at the same place -- 678 William St. The founder, Rudolph Frey, immigrated to the United States from Germany in 1895 and began his business a year later. . . .
