A man was listed in serious condition in the Erie County Medical Center Sunday night after police say he was shot by his nephew.
John W. Lewis, 35, of 2223 Niagara Ave. was shot once in the left side of his chest in his home around 11:05 p.m. Saturday, Detective Capt. Louis F. Curcione said. He was rushed by ambulance to the Buffalo hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery and is in the intensive care unit.
At 12:25 a.m. Sunday, Detectives Frank Coney and John Olander arrested Michael D. Lewis, 18, of the same address. Curcione said investigation at the scene led them to conclude Michael Lewis was the shooter, and shortly afterward the suspect called police himself from 27F Packard Court, where Coney and Olander went to arrest him.
Michael Lewis was charged with first-degree assault and second-degree criminal use of a firearm.
