Giovanni A. Agnelli, 32, heir-apparent to run the Fiat automotive empire, has registered intentions to marry a classmate he met while studying in the United States, Italian media reported Saturday.
Italian law requires wedding plans to be posted in advance in municipal offices.
Agnelli and his fiancee, Avery Frances Howe, 31, reportedly signed the prenuptial document in this hamlet of Montopoli in Val d'Arno, about 15 miles west of Pisa.
No date for the wedding was announced. But it seemed certain it will take cues from John F. Kennedy Jr.'s super-secret ceremony last month -- limiting the affair to family and close friends and far from the media's view.
Ms. Howe, an architect who holds dual British-American citizenship, met Agnelli when they were students at Brown University in Rhode Island, reports said. She is a consultant on a project to refurbish the museum at the headquarters of Fiat's Piaggio motor scooter division, which Agnelli heads, newspapers reported.
