CURTAIN RISING IN NOVEMBER ON TWO NEW TORONTO PRODUCTIONS

The world premiere of "Ragtime: The Musical," based on E.L. Doctorow's epic 1975 novel, is scheduled this fall at Toronto's Ford Centre for the Performing Arts. Previews begin Nov. 19 and it opens Dec. 9 for an indefinite run; call (416) 872-2222.

And the world premiere of "Jane Eyre," a new $6 million musical based on the 19th century novel by Charlotte Bronte, will be held at the Royal Alexandra Theatre in Toronto. Previews begin Nov. 16, and a minimum 12-week run is planned before the production moves to New York; call (800) 461-3333 or (416) 872-1212.

Also playing in Toronto:

"Angels in America," an epic drama by Tony Kushner that is staged in two segments, is being presented at the Canadian Stage Theatre. "Part One: Millenium Approaches" is currently running, and "Part Two: Perestroika" opens Nov. 6. Both continue indefinitely; call (416) 368-3110.

Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Phantom of the Opera" is now in its eighth year at the Pantages Theatre; call (416) 872-2222.
