The Fire Department will construct a "safety house" on a trailer that will be used to teach both children and adults about fire safety, Mayor Margaret Wuerstle said Friday.
The city had received a $2,500 grant from Philip Morris to be used for the project.
The department will be working with students from the Erie 2-Chautauqua-Cattaraugus BOCES on the construction.
The community will also be involved, because donations of materials will be solicited, she said. Clubs and organizations are expected to take part in the project.
Safety topics to be stressed include not touching hot doors, avoiding smoke and learning how to escape. Safety tips will also be given on fireplaces and stoves.
