The Town of Evans Police Department has received state accreditation for the second consecutive five-year period, according to Police Chief Robert Ferguson.

The accreditation program was started by the state in the late '80s, Ferguson said. The Evans department first received accreditation five years ago and was up for reinspection this year.

The review involved three state inspectors who spent three workdays checking the department's records and interviewed 13 of the department's
30 employees.

Ferguson said renewal of the accreditation, by showing that the department maintains high standards, may help in its insurance coverage and rates and in the case of any lawsuits that may arise within the five-year period.
