The plight of a small community hospital -- on the next "Donahue."

Talk show host Phil Donahue, a Connecticut resident, is joining the effort to save Winsted Hospital. He is the host at a TV pledge drive aimed at keeping the hospital's in-patient services open.

The fund-raising event today, on a local cable station, features testimonials and a panel of guests.

The northwest Connecticut hospital's financial problems prompted a vote earlier this year by the board of directors to end inpatient services. That move was blocked in court by the state attorney general.
