Hospitality House is a shelter that HOPE Ministries of Buffalo provides for families of those incarcerated in Western New York prisons or in the lock-up unit of Erie County Medical Center. The shelter needs drivers to pick up families coming by bus or train to transport them to the facilities.
Cooks are also needed to prepare meals for out-of-towners and people are needed to clean rooms at the Wyoming Avenue shelter. Call 892-8224 or 892-5574.
The Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural National Historic Site, 641 Delaware Ave., will conduct its annual fall orientation for prospective volunteers between 9:30 a.m. and noon on Oct. 23. There will be registration, a guided tour and an overview of the volunteer opportunities. Further orientation will be scheduled on the basis of the volunteer's interests. Earth Matters, a volunteer adopt-a-highway group, will have its final pickup of roadside trash along the Scajaquada Expressway on Sunday. Meet at the Juicery in Delaware Park at 9 a.m. Garbage bags and orange vests are provided. Comfortable walking shoes and work gloves are recommended. Children are welcome, but those under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Call 683-3342 for further information.
