The Town Board voted 5-0 Wednesday to permit the Greater Lewiston Business and Professional Association to hire an employee to promote the town, with a budget of $50,000 for salary and benefits.

The association would hire the individual, but the new employee would have to report to the Town Board as well as to the business association.

"Listen, it's a great start," said Peter G. Brass, who will become the new president of the business association on Sunday. He and three other representatives sold the idea to the Town Board members at a
special meeting.

He said he did not know just how much the new employee would be paid, because it would depend upon that person's qualifications. He said the new employee would tell people just what the town has to offer to residents, businesses and industries.
