A Brooklyn mother and her boyfriend have been charged with child endangerment after authorities claimed they repeatedly left her four children alone while she worked as a prostitute.
The children, 4 to 8 years old, were placed in foster care. A fifth child, an 11-year-old girl, lived with a relative, police said Wednesday.
Authorities were alerted Tuesday by a neighbor, Katie Hurse, who said she called police after being awakened by Cynthia Canady, 30, kicking at the door and screaming at the children to let her inside.
Ms. Canady and her boyfriend, Charles Warden, 35, were charged with four counts of child endangerment each.
Neighbors said police found crack pipes and other drug paraphernalia in the roach-infested apartment.
