Christine A. Neal Tuesday attended her first School Board meeting Tuesday on her first day on the job as superintendent of the city school system.
She was appointed on Sept. 30. During the same meeting, the board accepted the resignation of Russell J. Dever, who is leaving the district to become superintendent of the Barnstable, Mass., schools. Dever
recommended Mrs. Neal as his successor.
School Board President Charles Sobieraski said in the 15 years he has been on the board this is the first time a new superintendent has been hired who is not being paid more than the outgoing superintendent. Sobieraski also said a reception honoring Dever will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Oct. 29 in the board's meeting room.
