Nicolle Goffin, 5, died late Tuesday in Children's Hospital a little more than 30 hours after her father found her hanging from the swing set in the back yard. Her neck was caught in a stroller strap she had attached to a bar.
The girl had been in extremely critical condition since being flown to Children's by Mercy Flight after she was revived in the emergency room of Newfane Inter-Community Memorial Hospital.
David Goffin, her father, told deputies he was cooking supper at about 5:15 p.m. Monday while Nicolle played in the yard when he looked out the window and saw her hanging from the swing set.
He freed her, took her into house and called 911. Niagara County Sheriff's Deputy Antonio DiGregorio instructed Goffin over the phone how to perform CPR. A firefighter arrived minutes later and took over the resuscitation effort, but a pulse was not restored until Nicolle arrived at the Newfane hospital.
