COUPLE ARRESTED IN WELFARE SCAM

A Findley Lake couple was arrested in connection with the theft of $1,235 in public assistance from the Chautauqua County Department of Social Services, State Police said Tuesday.

Milton A. Proper, 30, and his wife, Helen M., 29, of North Road, were charged with fourth-degree grand larceny. They are accused of receiving public assistance and food stamps while Proper was employed.

They were released on appearance tickets returnable today in Jamestown City Court.
