The University at Buffalo has been awarded the 1997 New York State Collegiate Wrestling Championships, it was announced on Monday.
Seventeen schools will participate at Alumni Arena. Preliminary, quarterfinal and consolation rounds will be held Jan. 17. Semifinals and consolation and championship finals, will be Jan. 18.
WOMEN'S SOCCER: Buffalo native Ann Marie Destino set up a goal by Tonia Deligiannes as West Virginia clipped Canisius, 1-0. The Griffs are 5-6-0. . . . Cari Kruppner scored three goals and Kelly Nagy added a pair as St. Bonaventure routed Youngstown State, 6-1. Jo Storms had the other Bona goal.
MEN'S SOCCER: Canisius goaltender John Ford made six saves in a 1-0 loss to West Virginia. The Griffs are 3-8-1.
WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Buffalo State came from far behind to defeat Nazareth in five games. The Lady Bengals rallied from a 14-8 deficit in the fourth game to extend the match with a 16-14 victory. They won the fifth game, 15-11. Tami Sartori (Sweet Home) had 10 kills and 10 blocks for Buffalo State (12-12) while Christy Singleton had 19 assists.
GOLF: Glenn Gast (Tonawanda) and Randy Eich (West Seneca) each shot 77s as Canisius held down 10th place after the first round of the ECAC golf championships at Skidmore College.
