The Grand Island Planning Board recommended Monday night that the town grant Martin's Fantasy Island an exemption from a requirement that it obtain a yearly special-use permit for operation of its summer amusement park.
John Trianda, chairman of the Planning Board, said the change, requested by the park, will simplify financing of the entertainment business.
In other actions, the Planning Board recommended that the Town Board approve a site plan for construction of an 18,300-square-foot, 30-foot-high social-community center off the State Parkway between Baseline and Love roads. Conditions of the approval include erection of a six-foot-high wooden fence between the building and nearby residences, and additional lighting for a parking lot, Trianda said.
Also recommended to the Town Board for approval was a zoning change for Federal Storage of Western New York for construction of an extended mini-storage complex and office on Baseline Road.
